Shibas
were originally bred to participate in hunting birds, small
game, and sometimes wild boar, deer, and bear. While Shibas
are rarely used for hunting today, they still have a superb
instinct and natural ability. Their chase drive is definitely
alive and well! It is reported that a Shiba can outrun a rabbit
and kill it with grace and dexterity. Just as others in his
breed, Tsunami loves an excursion in the nearby woods or fields.
He is proving himself to be a natural "tracker." Tsunami has
flushed out and caught birds (inside and outside the house!).
He has pounced shrews. He adores "hide and seek" games. Tsunami
can leap several feet in the air and turn on a dime. His instincts
are extremely sharp. Place a tracking harness on him and he
can barely contain his enthusiasm!
With
this natural talent, we will be training Tsunami for tracking
trials. Stay tuned for his progress.
