July 2002 - 2nd Best of Breed at 11 months

July 2003 - Best of Opposite Sex

Tsunami is our first show dog. It is quite an accomplishment for a new owner/handler to achieve 2 championships and a Best In Show in just over 1 year. This could not have happened without the confidence and trust of our breeders, Dave Boykin and Jonah Greene of Sagewood Shibas. We appreciate their trust allowing us to adopt such a magnificent Shiba.

No less important is my conformation mentor, Trudy Davis. Trudy is a professional handler (Golden Retrievers). We met when I took my first class in conformation with the Kenai Kennel Club with Trudy instructing. After those initial classes, Trudy took me under her wing and provided private lessons. She would take time from her very busy schedule to meet us in the snow, frigid cold, and some beautiful, glorious days. Her professional instruction took a "newbie" to the world of conformation and allowed me to show Tsunami to the best of our abilities.

And last, but certainly not least, is my husband Mike. We are fortunate that Mike is a licensed hairstylist. With his background, he was a natural to serve as the groomer. Although Shibas do not require major "fluffing" for a show, Mike always had Tsunami looking his absolute best.

All too frequently, those vital folks behind the scenes do not get the acknowledgement they deserve! For all….I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Tsunami will take a break from the show ring as he develops his versatility as the remarkable Shiba he is, proving he can do the job he was originally bred to do. Tsunami is currently training with Mike for agility and will begin training with Jan in tracking. He continues working in obedience.

March 2002 - Debut at 7 months. Winner's Dog/Best of Winners
