Canine Good Citizen

The Canine Good Citizen program was implemented by the American Kennel Club to reward dogs with good manners. It consists of a series of ten exercises that the dog must pass. These tests are based on what you would expect a well-behaved dog to do out in public.

The tests consist of:

  • Test Item 1: Accepting a friendly stranger
  • Test Item 2: Sitting politely for petting
  • Test Item 3: Appearance and grooming
  • Test Item 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
  • Test Item 5: Walking through a crowd
  • Test Item 6: Sit and down on command - staying in place
  • Test Item 7: Coming when called
  • Test Item 8: Reaction to another dog
  • Test Item 9: Reaction to distraction
  • Test Item 10: Supervised separation

Tsunami received his Canine Good Citizen Certification in April 2003, passing all ten tests with no problems. He does tend to charm everyone he meets!
